Disaster relief assistance skills

I saw the message the other day from the ARRL President, calling for volunteers to Puerto Rico with Winlink credentials.

So my newbie question...: assuming there will be more emergency situations, should I plan to be getting up-to-speed first in Winlink or, say, in PSK31, as I think we were doing for digital on field day? Or something else entirely, e.g., a common ancestor with better beginner tools?

Thx-david

  • Hi David - that’s an excellent question. The answer is, of course, “it depends.” The ARRL has a good course on Emergency Communications that covers this and many other potential response considerations. Winlink is one email technology but not the only one, This might be a good future meeting topic.
